There have been exciting developments in The Shed Project, here we summarise the latest
The team at Colinton Village Enterprise are delighted to share that we have reached a significant milestone in our project to transform ‘The Shed’ (former Coach House) in Spylaw Park into a community hub.
Lorraine O'Shea (Chairman) and Pam Wardell (Vice-Chair) attended a CAT Stage 2 Application Panel meeting with Edinburgh City Council on 8 January. Here, they reviewed the business plan and initial architect drawings and concluded that our application would now go to the Council’s Finance and Resources Committee on 5 March.
This means we can now make legal steps to purchase The Shed building.
It's taken a lot of hard work from the CVE board, wider volunteer team and 2 years of community feedback to get to this point so I hope you'll all join us in the excitement as we move to the next stage.
To provide some background, in December 2018, via the Scottish Government's Community Asset Transfer (CAT) legislation under Part Five of the Community Empowerment (2015) Act, we successfully passed Stage 1 of The City of Edinburgh Council's application process as part of the route to purchase The Shed building.
In early January 2020, we received unanimous approval from the CAT advisory panel consisting of various stakeholders and Councillors to purchase the building following the submission of our Stage 2 application and business plan.
This means that our proposals have been put forward for recommendation to be approved by The City of Edinburgh Council’s Finance & Resource Committee in March. We are therefore very optimistic that our transfer request is approved at that meeting and will keep you updated through our website and facebook page.
